Privacy policy

This page explains what information What's On The Menu Eats collects when you use whatsonthemenueats.com, why we collect it and what you can do about it. We keep it to the minimum the site needs to work.
Who we are
What's On The Menu Eats is responsible for your information (the “data controller”). To get in touch about your information, use the feedback form at the bottom of the homepage.
What we collect and why
Newsletter. If you sign up, we keep your email address so we can tell you when a new restaurant is added. We only do this because you asked us to (your consent), and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Feedback and reviews. If you use the feedback form, we receive what you send: the type of message, the restaurant, any rating, your message, and your name and email address if you give them. We use this to reply to you, correct information and improve the site, which is in our legitimate interests.
Visit statistics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and features are used, such as searches and clicks on restaurant links. It is set up for statistics only, with Google's advertising features switched off, and helps us improve the site (our legitimate interests). You can switch it off on the Cookies page.
Settings kept on your device. Your language, saved favourites and statistics choice are stored in your own browser. They are not sent to us.
Your location and postcodes. If you tap “Near me”, your browser asks your permission and your location is used on your device to sort restaurants by distance. We don't receive or store it. If you type a postcode, it is sent to postcodes.io, a free UK postcode service, to find where it is.
Who else handles information
We use a small number of services to run the site: Netlify, which hosts the site and receives the forms; Google, for visit statistics and the site's fonts; OpenStreetMap, which supplies the map images; and postcodes.io for postcode searches. Like any website, these services see your IP address when your browser connects to them. We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
Some of these services may process information outside the UK. When that happens, it is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law.
How long we keep it
Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Feedback messages are kept for up to two years, then deleted. Google Analytics keeps visit statistics for no longer than 14 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Just contact us through the feedback form. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
